Information on carrying out a planned burn

Notifying Triple Zero Victoria about planned burns prevents unnecessary fire brigade response. Callers reporting an actual fire can then verify that the fire is a planned burn. If this can't be verified a fire brigade will be asked to respond.

Before you notify us and carry out your planned burn, ensure:

You are following regulations or laws by CFA and your local council.
You notify your neighbours if your activity will generate fire and smoke.
Check the weather forecast for the day of the activity and a few days afterwards.
Establish a gap in vegetation or fire break of no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material.
There are enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively.

How to notify?

This is the best option if your burn off commences more than two hours from now.

If you wish to start your burn-off immediately, register your burn-off by calling 1800 668 511, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please provide the following information about your burn-off when registering: 

Location 
Date and expected start and finish times 
Estimated size 
What you intend to burn

During periods of high demand, Triple Zero Victoria will prioritise the most urgent calls which may result in extended waiting times. Registering online is the faster and simplest option.

Complete the Burn off Notification Form (DOCX 900.6KB) and email the form to burnoffs@triplezero.vic.gov.au

To ensure that the fire services are aware of your planned burn, register your burn-off notification using the methods above.

Only call 000 in an emergency. 

Important note: Some information that you provide may be displayed on the CFA website. This may include the street name and area where the planned burn you are registering will take place. This information may be shared using the CFA, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) websites at the time of ignition, as well as the VicEmergency website and app and internal incident management systems.
