Valor Medal

The Valor Medal is available to all CFA members for acts of bravery.

May be awarded to any personnel of the CFA or volunteer officer or member of any brigade for saving (or attempting to save) human life at grave risk to his/her own life.

Criteria

  1. After due inquiry and after receipt of statutory declarations by not less than two witnesses of the action of any officer of the Authority or officer or member of any brigade in saving (or attempting to save) human life at grave risk to his/her own life, the Authority may award to such officer or member a medal which shall be known as the 'Valor' medal.
  2. A Valor medal:
    • shall be gold in colour and shall have depicted on the obverse a fireman rescuing a child and on the reverse the seal of the Authority; and
    • shall be worn on all ceremonial occasions suspended by a red and blue ribbon fastened to the right breast of the jacket (CFA Act 1958 S99A).

Nominations

Nominations supported by not less than two statutory declarations from witnesses of the action must be submitted through the Assistant Chief Fire Officer for recommendation to the Authority.
