Since our official formation on 2 April 1945, CFA has been instrumental in protecting communities across Victoria.
Through devastating fires, floods and other emergencies, our people have been there; resilient, dedicated and passionate.
Throughout the years, we have grown to become one of the largest volunteer-based organisations in the world, with more than 52,000 members in over 1,200 brigades across the state. We are a diverse emergency service, reflecting the many communities we serve.
Advancements in firefighting equipment, vehicles and safety procedures have significantly enhanced the ability of our members to respond to emergencies and protect lives and property. However, our mission remains steadfast.
Our 80th anniversary provides us with the opportunity to celebrate our history and achievements as well as acknowledge the vital contribution of our members, past and present, who have worked tirelessly to keep Victorian communities safe.
In 2025, we are recognising 80 years since CFA was officially established, but our brigade and member history encompasses many more years. We look forward to sharing the many events, moments and milestones that defined us.
