CFA firefighters helped free a passenger of a vehicle after it collided with a shop window at Baxter Plaza on Monday, 18 October.
Firefighters and rescue crews from Baxter and Langwarrin fire brigades were paged to the scene just after 11.30am, with support from Frankston SES personnel, Victoria Police and paramedics.
The hatchback had mounted the footpath and come to rest against the shop front and pole.
Incident Controller and Baxter Captain Daniel Nanos said while the driver escaped without serious injury, CFA and SES crews worked together to free the passenger quickly and safely.
“Rescue crews from Langwarrin and SES stabilised the vehicle and use a hydraulic spreader to push the vehicle away from the pole it was resting against,” he said.
“Once they created enough space between the car and the pole, we were able to free the passenger’s leg.”
The collision caused damage to the structure of the building and crews on scene notified local building surveyors to attend.
No one was inside the structure at the time of the incident.
“All agencies worked great together on scene,” Cpt Nanos said.
“There was fantastic communication across all crews, and we dealt with all challenges swiftly.”
Emergency services were on scene for around 45 minutes before the vehicle was removed and the incident was declared safe at around 12.15pm.
The driver and passenger were handed into the care of paramedics.
